Assignment: Survey Results Say!

You and 1 other classmate can work on this project together, or you can do it on your own.

Here's What To Do!

Part I.  Develop a survey (using SurveyMonkey.com) to discover what GUST students think about the quality of teaching at GUST. Your survey must consist of at least 5 and no more than 10 good questions that ask GUST students to evaluate the quality of teaching at GUST. You develop the questions first, and then you load the questions into your survey using SurveyMonkey. After you successfully create your survey, SurveyMonkey will provide you with a link to the survey. Use that link to give to GUST students and they can use it to go to your survey and complete it. The SurveyMonkey site has a lot of helpful information to guide your through creating a survey.

Part II. Generate 25 responses to your survey. You can do this in several ways:

Part III. Analyze your survey results.

  • Create a Word document in this format: YourFirstName_Your4DigitGUSTID_Survey.docx.
  • Include names/numbers of team members at the top of the document.
  • Include the link to your survey. Also include your username and password for SurveyMonkey so that I can look at your results.
  • Spend time analyzing the results of your survey. What do the answers tell you about what students at GUST think about the quality of teaching at GUST? SurveyMonkey provides some tools that will help you see and report the results of the survey.
  • Your Word document must include at least 3 and no more than 5 complete paragraphs (each paragraph is 2-5 sentences) that explain your survey results. You can use illustrations from SurveyMonkey to show your results.
  • Use the last paragraph of your assignment to explain what you learned from this assignment -- not what you learned about the quality of teaching at GUST, but what you learned about developing surveys, generating survey results, the process of using SurveyMonkey, etc. I want to know what you learned by doing the assignment (not what you learned from the results of the survey).

Helpful Notes: The success of your project will depend on the quality of your survey questions. When you create a survey question, ask yourself what you will learn from the answers to the question. Avoid asking Yes/No (closed-ended) questions. Search online for documents that will help you develop good survey questions. Please take time to review at least 2 articles about how to create good survey questions.

Review of your Survey Questions: (Optional). If you would like me to review your survey questions before you create your final survey, send me the list of questions via email. Your email must include the Subject: Review Survey Questions.

Quality of Teaching is all about how well teaching is conducted at GUST. Here is an article that will help you as you consider what questions you need to ask in your survey. You will find many other helpful articles by searching online. Your survey questions must be developed to allow students to give you their opinions about how well teaching is conducted at GUST. I want to see that you have based your questions on the information in the article linked above, and other articles that you can find online.

Deadline: Monday 16 November 2015. Send your document to me via email no later than 12:00 noon that day.
